Son of George Street Chignell and Emma Mary Chignell, of Thorneloe Bank, Worcester.

The July, 1918 edition of The Herefordian included his obituary:

Sec. Lieut. Hugh Chignell, Worcester Regt., fell in action on April 26th, 1918. He was the older son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Street Chignell, of St. John’s, Worcester, and after being at the School for years he went on to Worcester Cathedral King’s School, passing from there to the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He was gazetted to the Worcester Regt. in April, 1917, and went to France in the following July.
