A. L. Gorton, 1/10th Ghurkhas, was killed in action on October 29th, 19l8, during severe fighting, which terminated the struggle on the Euphrates. He began his career in Lloyd’s, but preferred a more active life, and joined a well-known firm in the Straits. As the war progressed he gave up bright prospects and obtained a commission in India. After the usual training and service on the Frontier, he was sent to Mesopotamia. He was the only son of the late Rev. A. H Gorton, Rector of Neen Sollars, Salop, and grandson of time late Ven. John Gorton, formerly Archdeacon of Madras.
