Three Choirs Schools Group
Thursday 07 May 2026
Dear Old Herefordians,

I am writing to share some positive and important news about a new collaboration between Hereford Cathedral School and two other cathedral schools in the region. Together, we have formed the Three Choirs Schools Group, a partnership created to enhance educational excellence, strengthen professional practice and explore greater operational efficiency across our three schools.

The partnership between Hereford Cathedral School, The King’s School, Gloucester and The King’s School, Worcester is built on the strong foundations of our shared vision and ethos. Each of our schools has an historic foundation in cathedral heritage, a rich musical tradition, a Christian ethos and a deep commitment to academic ambition, character development and outstanding pastoral care. While each school is distinct, we are united in our belief that thoughtful collaboration can enrich the experience of pupils and staff alike.
Importantly, each school will remain fully independent with no changes to governance, leadership, legal status or the day-to-day running of the schools. Unlike many other school groups, this partnership has not been created for profit or commercial gain. It is founded?on a genuinely collaborative approach, rooted in shared values and a common commitment to delivering a first-class education.?

For pupils, this collaboration will enable us to create new opportunities that complement and enhance their existing school experience, such as shared enrichment and challenge activities designed to broaden horizons, strengthen learning and foster new friendships.
For staff, the partnership will encourage closer professional collaboration through subject networks, shared?training?and the exchange of best practice. This may include cross-school moderation, curriculum?innovation?and joint professional development, helping to sustain?high standards?and continuous improvement.?

We?will also explore opportunities for operational efficiencies such as shared procurement and?services?to ensure resources are used wisely and effectively with any savings reinvested directly into the teaching and learning within each school.?

Collectively, the three schools have a combined history of over?two millennia, more than?2,600 pupils and an annual turnover?of £50m.?The formation of the?Three Choirs Schools?Group?reflects a shared belief that collaboration strengthens educational provision, supports long-term?sustainability?and creates meaningful opportunities for pupils and staff, while allowing each school to remain fully independent and true to its own ethos.??

The Governors and I look forward to the opportunities this partnership will bring for our communities. To learn more about the partnership.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss the partnership further.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Michael Gray
